What's Cookin' Wednesday...

I'm really trying to get back into the swing of posting more times per week. However, that being said it sometimes hard throwing a blog post together with all the other things we are juggling. In the mean time I hope to share with you a recipe per week on Wednesdays to add something new and fun.

This week's recipe is a breakfast recipe that is popular with my family and the kids like to get in on the fun too. So with the assistance of my little helper here's what we did to make this yummy breakfast treat!

Your Mom's Dutch Baby

1/4 cup butter
3 eggs
3/4 cups flour
3/4 cups milk

Turn on your oven to 425 degrees. Spray a 2-3 quart casserole dish. Place the 1/4 cup of butter in the casserole and place it in the oven as it pre-heats.

While the butter is melting I put all the ingredients into a mason jar.

Then I let my helpers shake...

Once your batter is 'shaken up' remove the pan from the oven and pour batter into the melted butter.

Put it back in to bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until 'puffed' and golden brown.

Then we sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the whole thing and dig in! Some like maple syrup too!

Yummmmmmmmm....!

This would be a fabulous breakfast to begin your day of sewing this weekend!! Happy stitching and may your bobbin always be full!

Just a note... here are your ratios if you have a larger crowd.

3 - 4 qt pan 1/3 cup butter, 4 eggs, 1 cup flour and milk

4 - 4 1/2 qt pan 1/2 cup butter, 5 eggs, 1 1/4 cup flour and milk

4 1/2 - 5 qt pan  1/2 cup butter, 6 eggs, 1 1/2 cup flour and milk.

Getting Ready...

With Shop Hop just 5 weeks away, sewing tables have been busy! Some times when you get to spend lots of time sewing you get inspired with new ideas! Tracey has done just that, hence our new "Block Exchange" called Quilting Sister Blocks. May is our kick off month so there's plenty of time to get in on the fun! If you don't live in town we'd be happy to send them to where you are!! So please don't let distance stop you.

Here's the scoop...

Each month you participate you pay $8 and receive a focus fabric, theme and pattern. You may use the fabric any where in the block that you would like. To complete the block you can use things from your stash or you may purchase fabrics. You will make 10 of the same block and get them back to us by the end of the month. At the beginning of the following month you will receive an assortment of 10 blocks that you can then use to make a quilt or other project.

It's a great way to use up some of your stash and get a quilt made fast with the help of your 'quilting sisters'!! Here is a sample of our first months block.

If you're interested in joining in on the fun call 253.531.4309 or email parklandparish@gmail.com the shop and we can take care of you!!

Here are some other things we've been working on...

Happy stitching and may your bobbin always be full!!

Half Square Triangle Quilt...

We have fallen in love with the Mooshka fabric here at the Parish! I made a little quilt and kitty from the panel awhile back and now I have finished the top for my girl's quilt to match. It goes together so fast and it's such 'happy' fabric you'll need to make one of your own! Here's what I did...

For this project I used:

12 1/3 yard cuts to make my half square triangle
1/2 yard for the inner border
7/8 yard for the outer border

Once I pressed all my fabrics I cut 108 5" squares. I then mixed up my fabrics and placed them right sides together marked them, sewed them and cut them to make the half square triangle.

I love this little tool. It's called a Quick Quarter. You place it on your square like so, and then draw on each side. Sew on those line and then cut your triangles apart and you have a half square triangle.

Once you get them all sewn then you just place your ruler 1/4" line on the stitched line and cut down the center and you will have a perfect 1/4" seam allowance.

Then just press open! Then I squared up my units to 4 1/2" blocks and randomly sewed them together. It was really random, but if you're not comfortable with that you can use a design wall and lay them out.

Once I sewed my strips together I then began to put the quilt together.

Then I added a cut 3" border and a cut 5" border and I was done!

Come in to the shop and check it out and make one of your own! Happy stitching and may your bobbin always be full!

Wing Clipper Class...

The other night we had a fabulous class using a new tool we've found to create flying geese! The tool is easy to use and using this method makes flying geese quick and easy. Here are some reflections of the class.

Didn't they do a fabulous job! They all look beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished quilts! Do you like star quilts? We are offering another class on Saturday, May 11th and June 8th with yet another technique! Click here for more information and to register! Happy stitching and may your bobbin always be full!

Stash Dash Party!!

Last week I shared with you another blogger and a wonderful quilted tea set because I was under the weather and thought I had the flu. Well, this week hasn't gone much better! Now I have pneumonia!! So I thought I'd share with you some more inspiration! One of the best thing about my job is seeing all of the talented ladies and wonderful projects they bring in. Our group of Stash Dashers are no exception! They are not only talented, but they so inspire me that I had to share with all of you!

Not only did the ladies come in and sew with us for the day and finish projects from their stash, they passed on some wonderful projects. Many of them were donated to groups that pass it on to charity. At this quarters event the ladies donated projects to Hugs, Wounded Warriors, and Quilts of Valor just to name a few! So not only did these ladies use up some stash, they passed it on to wonderful causes! What a great and generous use of stash!! Here are some photos of our day!

If you missed this quarter's event, watch Facebook, email, etc. for our next one! If you're not a Stash Dasher and would like to be, you can join at any time.

Happy stitching and may your bobbin always be full!

Inspiration!

Sometimes with blogging it's hard to always have the next great project or idea to share with followers, well this week is no exception. I think I have the flu and I just knew that my project was not going to be done for today. However, I think I've found something better! Here at the Parish we love our tea and tea parties. In fact, the third Sunday of each month we host a wonderful tea party for our Hand Embroidery Club. We are working on a block of the month, however if you have a current hand project you're working on feel free to join us any time!! It's a lot of fun!

So here's what I want to share with you! I came across this the other day and was so inspired that I had to share! If you have any little people in your life, this would make the most adorable gift! I'll have to let you know if I get one made. Here you go...

Meet Stasher Linda Baldwin...

2013 is the year for finishing projects, at least here at the Parish! To that end we began our "Stash Dash" challenge on February 1st. We have a large group of ladies that have taken on the challenge and Linda is one of them. Our goal is to use at least 100 yards out of our stash this year and complete projects. Here's a little about Linda...

Linda has been quilting for many years and currently has two cabinets of material/kits and partially completed projects. She attempted to count them all and it's approximately 15 projects plus material that isn't part of any specific project. Linda has already finish three projects so far! Many of these projects she has had planned for 5 years or more. She says she loves all the projects she has awaiting her attention and hopes to complete most of them this year. The projects range from small lap quilts to wall hangings to full size quilts. Linda is currently working on improving her free motion quilting skills. By completing all these projects this year she will get lots of practice! Linda is actively working on 4 projects at the moment. Three are still being pieced and one is being quilted.

Great work Linda! She is well on her way to 100 yards! How about you? Are you getting those projects done? There is still time to join our "Stash Dash" challenge. Call the shop and we can take care of you! Let's inspire each other and get those UFO's DONE!!

If you are in the same boat as Linda and would like to improve your Free Motion skills, join award winning quilter Norma Jean Nyman on Saturday, May 18th for Beginning Free Motion. Click here to register.
