ReplyDeleteI do a lot of quilts for charity, and I like to machine-quilt the quilts with an elongated serpentine stitch. I call it "stitching in the vicinity of the ditch."
ReplyDeleteI like piecing my quilt tops and using my long arm quilting machine to quilt either stippling or swirls and loops.
ReplyDeleteI love free motion quilting my quilt tops. I love the freedom of doodling appeals to me at the moment! Pam Jolly
ReplyDeleteI like to machine piece my quilt tops and free motion the quilt for whatever creative idea is topmost on my mind at the moment. A lot more fun that way. Sylvia Rios, July 5, 2011, 7:30 pm

ReplyDeleteI like to machine stitch the top and and machine quilt the quilt, with some stitch in the ditch.
ReplyDeleteRonalyn Remme
I love to paper piece and will paper piece almost anything!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to quilt is to free motion with my sewing machine. Even though I have to smoosh my quilt, I love just going with the fabric design or just my desire to swirl.
ReplyDeleteTambra Hobbs
I really enjoy machine stich my pieces and hand sew the top and bottom...I really like all log cabins...all sizes...
ReplyDeletemichelle talyor
I machine piece the top and either stitch-in-the-ditch or, for smaller quilts, I will sometimes design a picture to stitch on the top with my sewing machine. I have drawn and stitched many baby quilts this way with cars, teddy bears, bunnies, etc - the design depends on the fabric I am using.
ReplyDeleteI love to hand applique.

ReplyDeleteI love to hand piece things like Dresden Plates in the car when traveling somewhere. So soothing to have handwork using stunning fabrics. Very satisfying.
These days I'm into hand applique!
ReplyDeleteCindy Williams
I love to Credit CARD Quilt! So much easier and prettier than my designs!

My favorite technique is machine applique although I just plain old love to quilt. I will try anything and can always find something new to learn.
ReplyDeletePat Ditter

ReplyDeleteSusan Kahn
I love to sew the old fashion way by hand
ReplyDeleteI just love to cut & sew the pieces back together. You never know how it's going to look until it's done. I find it relaxing and exciting at the same time.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm enjoying hand embroidering quilt blocks. I also like to machine piece - I love to watch the pattern emerge. But my favorite "technique" is collecting fabric!
ReplyDeleteLorna Sutton
guess if I had to chose, Handquilting the blocks then the QAYG block method. Especially with Valor, service, charity, Mystery patterns. The lack of knowing exactly what the outcome will be exciting. Also handstitching Hexi's.
ReplyDeleteCA Blom
I learned how to paper-piece a few years ago and it was so much fun! I never thought I could get my points to look so perfect. It's time-consuming, but worth it. ~Rebecca Mailand
ReplyDeleteWhatever one I'm currently working on.
ReplyDeleteAnna Easton
I crave the creative process. So, my favorite technique is to find beautifully cohesive fabrics first. Then I play with them until I get a feel for what they are saying to me. That's when I create my art quilt master piece. It's wonderful to be part of a select group of creative and talented artists. Design from your heart and create what you love!
ReplyDeleteTrena Shepherd
I like traditional quilts but they must be bright and happy.
ReplyDeleteLaura Jenks
I enjoy many technique and as my quilting sisters have stated the technique I am working on at this time is the best. One of my favorite is machine applique. I can got lost and forget my troubles while machine applique.
ReplyDeleteMartha Moore
I am a beginning quilter, so I am mastering Stich in the Ditch. But, in one more week I will take Norma Jean's class and learn to do free motion!! Susan Gifford
ReplyDeleteI really like freezer paper applique the best. Many quilts are done quicker, but the handwork produces beautiful results and somehow makes me feel linked to all the women who quilted before me.
ReplyDeleteSonya Huffman
My favorite technique is cutting and machine piecing the top ~ I love seeing the cut pieces become one beautiful quilt top! Linda Valvoda
ReplyDeleteSInce you said we need to give our first and last name: Judi Reiss
ReplyDeleteI like paper piecing as i get wonderful results. As for the actual quilting. well, on small quilts I try to use a long arm but the biggies: bed sized quilts, I send them to a professional long arm person. I love piecing too much to take the itme that it takes to actually learn the techniques involved with getting such great results with a long arm.
I really like free motion quilting but sometimes the quilt calls for something different - I also enjoy putting scraps together to make different quilt blocks. I just love it all.
ReplyDeleteConnie Brandal
I love machine quilting and those decorative machine stitches are so much fun with my machine’s built-in walking foot. First I do SID to anchor the squares in place. Then making sure I hit the diagonal corners of all my squares, I do a long gently waving almost parallel lines diagonally across the quilt using a decorative stitch. I make each long waving line of diagonal stitching with a different but complementary decorative stitch. Tecla Legge
ReplyDeleteMy VERY favorite technique is hand stitching the binding! to get there, I use whatever is the easiest technigue I know. Rotary cutting, design wall, machine piecing, and machine quilting, leading up to the aforementioned all time favorite!
ReplyDeleteSarah Rasmussen
I find free motion the easiest technique.
ReplyDeleteMarguerite Namdar
I enjoy embroidered blocks added to my quilt tops.
ReplyDeletesue johnson
I like the faux cathedral windows look where you fold fabric in half & sew it into the seams of the piecing then turn the folded edge out & stitch down. It looks very technical, but is actually kind of fun!
ReplyDeleteKris Bowen
Shopping is a part of the quilting process, Right? My favorite part. I love all the choices, the possibilities, the fellowship. I live in a remote area. When guests visit my studio they are easy converts so off to the quilt shops we go for a color and coordinating lesson. Yes, teaching and shopping. But shopping is the best!
ReplyDeleteCheryl Dykstra
I enjoy stepping into a quilt shop and being surrounded by beautiful fabrics. Then I take in each bolt as I scan the aisles and preceed to narrow my search. When I find just the one or two that strike me most I quickly figure on "who" could be the recipient. Then as you know the fabric hunt is on and the dreaming begins. Creating treasures from beginning to end is such a rewarding process. Candi Ausbun
ReplyDeleteI generally have someone else do the quilting on my quilts, however, my favorite part is hand sewing the binding. I love to hand sew and when I'm doing the binding I know the project is just about done.
ReplyDeletePaper piecing half-square and quarter-square triangles using Brenda Hennings' Triangulations software.
ReplyDeleteI liike the Buggy Barn method of quilting. It doesn't require exact precision and you just square up the blocks when they are completed.
ReplyDeleteJeanne Yakovich
I love to make quilt tops! The quilting part is not quite as fun as making to top!
